The Path of Holistic Healing - My Mom’s Journey to Wholeness
In last week's blog, I mentioned that I experienced someone close to me healing holistically from illness, and today I wanted to dive more deeply into what happened.
This person I was referring to was my Mom and she has given me permission to share her story here in order to help others who may try to figure out their own path of healing.
NOTE: Please be aware that this story does contain some aspects of my Mom’s physical symptoms which are explained in some detail so as to be clear about her experience.
My Mom’s Story of Healing
When I was 11 years old, my Dad left my Mom and me. There was a betrayal in this that was perhaps more excruciating than normal because the person he left my Mom for was her best friend...and my Mom never saw it coming.
In the months that would follow, as my Mom and I were both figuring out our new normal, my Mom's left breast became infected, and pus would leak out from the nipple continuously. It became so bad that she was experiencing constant excruciating pain.
She would work at night as a waitress in a pub, and in a clothing store throughout the day, having to be careful to not bump into that area while making a living for her and me. I remember the worry I had for her during that time and feeling helpless because I didn’t know what I could do to help her.
Going the Traditional Route
Over the next year and a half, with this being a consistent symptom, my Mom saw many doctors in the pursuit of removing the pus and healing the problem. She ended up going through five surgeries during that time period. Before each of the surgeries, the doctors would tell her that if they found cancer during the operation they would have to remove her breast, so she never knew, what to expect when she would wake up.
As she came out of her last surgery, the surgeon told my Mom that he felt confident that they had removed every bit of the pus and even some tissue to fully eliminate the issue, but it wasn’t even two weeks later when the symptoms flared up once again.
My Mom was faced with a sense of defeat at the next consultation when the doctor told her that he had no further solutions to recommend to her and that if she was determined to keep going forward he could offer no other choice but to remove her breast to end this.
It was around that same time that a friend of my Mom’s recommended that she see a holistic healing practitioner. He had helped her and she felt confident that he would be able to help my Mom, as well.
Seeking Alternative Help
When my Mom arrived at the practitioner’s office, he told her in no uncertain terms that he wasn't sure if he would be able to assist her, but that he would give it his best. He then looked her in the eyes and, through a process called Iridology, he determined that there was a deep sorrow inside of her and that her soul was suffering. He went on to suggest that this was the real root cause of her symptoms, and also explained that every person has a weak spot where illness can manifest, and for her, this was in her breast. He then prescribed some drops for her to take for several weeks to see if it would heal the issue.
For me, now as an Energy Healer, this seems so obvious that she would have symptoms near her Heart Chakra after the trauma of the loss of the love of her life. It was no wonder that this was where the deep sadness in her soul began to show up; it was literally like her soul crying for help!
Throughout the weeks thereafter, my Mom’s symptoms first got worse, and then she began to experience improvements and, within about six weeks, the problems she had been experiencing were completely gone. While I don't know which drops he had prescribed to her, what I do know for sure is that they were able to tap into her deep emotions, and heal that aspect.
The Various Levels of Healing
My Mom’s symptoms never again returned, and we moved forward with our lives, but it would still take many years to heal most of the emotional wounds created from my Dad’s betrayal as neither she nor I were yet aware of the inner energetic work that could help her heal fully. Issues in her body, which can be traced back to their points of origin, did show up eventually in various ways. For example, it was the left side of her body, which energetically represents the feminine aspect, which developed the symptoms and indicates how deeply that feminine part of her was wounded by the impact of the loss and betrayal. And in later years, she developed arthritis in her knees which is energetically a place in which we tend to store anger.
I have a feeling that the drops that were given to my Mom so many years before were the very type of thing I ended up encountering in my adult years as I began to learn about Homeopathy and especially Flower Essences, also referred to as Remedies. These types of drops can directly impact and heal the emotional root cause of the symptom, which is the actual disease. As we are vibrational beings, everything works on vibration and frequency, and when we introduce a new frequency to the system, we can often heal the underlying cause of the emotional impact in a very gentle way.
I have taken some excerpts from an excellent article on Flower Essences by Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D. to explain how such things can heal at the core level and what they do for our energy systems.
“Flower essences, or flower remedies, are infusions made from the flowering part of a plant. The process of sun steeping, or boiling the flower in water, captures the energy imprint of the flower. So, unlike essential oils or herbal remedies, which contain physical substances extracted from plants, there is no physical part of the flower in a flower essence, only its healing vibration. And, every flower has a different healing quality.
Unlike pharmaceuticals, which suppress symptoms, flower essences work by the principle of resonance in the subtle body where imbalance starts. In other words, the action of flower essences is energetic, not biochemical. All plants have a unique vibrational energy pattern, and the flower is the pinnacle of this energy. Sometimes flower essences work immediately; other times you may feel the effects unfold over days or weeks, layer by layer.
While flower essences don’t address specific physical ailments, such as asthma or cancer, they work on an energetic level to address the underlying emotions, release unwanted patterns, and attract what is right for you.
When you use flower essences, anything that doesn’t match the vibration of a chosen essence simply goes away. For example, if you are experiencing fear and anxiety and you use a flower essence with a calming or joyful vibration, your awareness of that calm and joyful feeling is raised, and the feeling of fear (which is a lower vibration) dissipates. This is also how homeopathic remedies work.”
Today, I use the Bach Flower Remedies as well as the North American Flower Essences in my own practice with my clients as they are a wonderful part of the resources available for deep energetic healing in combination with Energy Work and Hypnotherapy. Even though I now know the effect on my own system, as well as on my clients’ over years of application, I am still amazed that something so gentle can be so effective. As the frequency is emitted through several drops of the flower’s essence, either into the water we drink or taken under the tongue, it informs our system with new information that shifts the vibration in our field.
I am happy to say that eventually my Mom did find love once again with my wonderful ‘Bonus Dad’, Walter, and they have enjoyed the most loving relationship for over 30 years now.
Resolving the Deeper Impact
Whenever I would visit my Mom in Germany, we would spend time together to work on unresolved issues energetically, and I empowered her through teaching her Reiki. I am proud to say that she is now a Reiki Master.
Last year, as I was visiting with my now 75-year-old Mom in Germany and sitting with her in her kitchen, we healed everything from that original impact as well as childhood trauma all throughout her timeline to its core using the skills I have acquired in my Hypnotherapy Practice and Energy Healing. That Moment has become one of my brightest highlights as a Healer; to be able to truly help my own Mom finally heal after all these years, and to fully bring this chapter to a close. She will never have to carry this in her field again and can live her life freed from that emotional impact.
I want to take a moment here and state that my Dad was a wonderful person who had his own challenges and conflicts at that time which influenced him to do what he did. And I am incredibly grateful that he and I did eventually heal everything together after I had moved to the US and he came to visit me at which point we could truly spend time together and work through everything. In fact, my Dad was instrumental in getting our Bakery off the ground.
As I reflect back on the situation, I feel it was a blessing that my Mom’s body allowed the outpouring of emotions in this way as it meant that her body did have an outlet for this information. If this had not been released from her body, It could have easily manifested into something more severe back then. We have been conditioned to believe that we must focus our concern on eliminating any symptom, and are therefore primarily concerned with getting rid of the dis-ease instead of seeing it as an opportunity to search for and heal the root cause.
The beauty of looking at our system as a whole and assessing physical manifestations for their mental or emotional origins is that we can begin to put understanding behind it. These concepts may seem different and are newer to many of us, but they are the true basis of energetic principles and offer a tremendous amount of new understanding and possibilities for us.
I want to also emphasize that in no way do I dismiss the help and skillset of doctors, and many times a combination of doctors and Energy Healing practitioners working together in partnership can be a wonderful route; it does not have to be just one or the other.
Different Avenues of Exploration
The journey to healing is each individual’s personal undertaking and something that can be an evolutionary process which might prompt you to consider different routes during different times as you navigate the stages back to wellness and harmony. Within the complexity of your own healing path, all avenues and holistic approaches can be useful and valid, and there should never be any judgment as to how this path evolves. We are complex beings and there is no ‘be all and end all’ for all situations. It can, and should, be very empowering to know that there are so many different resources available to us for our overall and deepest sense of wellness.
I feel that my path to becoming a Healer was shaped and set in motion by these events so early on in my life which left a deep imprint in me. When I saw that healing could be affected differently from how we see it using the traditional perspective, it changed my whole outlook on the way I viewed the potentials in our reality from that moment forward. Once our eyes are opened we cannot ever shut them again, and this has been my blessing and it is my pleasure to assist others in this awakening.
To close, I want to express the deep love and gratitude that I have for my Mom. She has always given me unconditional love and support, has always believed in me and has given me the freedom and encouragement to develop on my own path. There is no way that I would be the person I am today without her.
