How to Navigate Your Emotions in Challenging Times

As we are all navigating through the complexities of these challenging times, we are emotionally impacted by the circumstances.

I am an empath - I feel the heaviness of this moment around and through me. Holding space for myself, my family & friends, clients, community, and for this world filled with uncertainty, division, fear, grief, and loss.

And in it all, the word that resounds from my core is just BEING, even if it means to remain vulnerable as I know that from this, growth is born.

There is a season for everything on earth, and this season offers us the gift of healing.

Setting the Record Straight

What I’ll be sharing here may counter popular mindset ideas where the focus is on positive thinking while setting emotions to the side.

In my studies as a Healer and Hypnotherapist, I read my share of mindset books, took courses on mindset, and watched the gurus in the field. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get myself into a happy state through mindset alone, and questions like...

Why can't I just conjure up happy thoughts and live life blissful and happily ever after?

The same feelings keep coming up, why can’t I just brush them aside?

...would always surface.

Well, if you had these same thoughts, you are not a failure, hopeless, or crazy.

It goes much deeper than this - to the root of things, as this is where the transformation lies. This is the work I do with my clients and it creates lasting shifts into well-being.

It all begins and ends with our emotions.

Our emotions are our true guidepost to our internal state, and no positive thoughts alone can override them. It is just like when we experience any kind of pain in our bodies, signaling us that something is off. When we take painkillers, we simply cover up the pain, never getting to the root cause, and therefore never genuinely healing the origin. In fact, the issue, as well as the pain, only gets bigger.

The same thing happens with our emotions, and the illusion of overwriting them with positive thoughts does not work.

The Shutdown of our Emotions

From childhood on, most of us have been trained to brush it off, not feel too deeply, not be too loud, and stop crying.

In this effort to fit into our families and communities, we close off to make life more convenient for ourselves and others. We learn early on that our emotions are better not shared too deeply. We gradually hide it all away to become functional human beings until eventually, it catches up.

And if there is one thing that I know for sure from my healing practice, it always will. The point will come for each of us, where our emotions will send louder signals. They will reflect back to us the things that are working, and most importantly, the things that are not working in our lives.

It is just like a water hose that can only hold so much before it needs to burst. It is our choice to either fully embrace the gift within this, or experience the effects of suppressed emotions in our body, mind, and spirit.

How to Heal through Emotions

So, what does this navigation of your emotions look like?

It begins with no longer holding back and allowing yourself the unfolding of your emotions.

Most of us are so afraid of falling apart that we forget that it is a natural cycle of transformation. It is uncomfortable to be in a state of unraveling, especially if we have been holding on tightly to things in our lives that seemed precious or important.

Imagine as you live life, you slowly become more and more wrapped up, filled with layers of experiences that are held in suspension through patterns and colors within your aura.

As time passes, they slowly become denser until they manifest as overwhelm, imbalance, and illness. And in this is the opportunity to realize that it's time to stop covering up, to let things fall as they may - to even let them be there for a while so that you can figure things out.

We’re not eighteen anymore. We’ve lived. We’ve created things that last – things of joy, and things of burden.
— Dianna Hardy, Summer's End

This is a time where you may feel like you're falling apart, and it can feel scary, as this is where you are stepping into the unknown. You are entering new territory that you may never have explored before, and it will feel unsettling.

And out in the wide-open field, you acknowledge the pain and let a state of BEING emerge.

From this place, the healing begins.

However subtle it may seem, your openness to vulnerability is a signal of change to your system. Something new begins to happen, something unfamiliar, and space is being created.

I know this transformation is painful, but you’re not falling apart, you’re just falling into something different, with a new capacity to be beautiful.

Freeing Yourself from Past Pain

Herein lies your greatest opportunity to understanding that it is okay to pick up each piece, one at a time. Take an honest look at the root of each emotion, and let it pour out. Acknowledge along the way that these are just growing pains towards your biggest breakthroughs.

The way to do this is to feel behind the root of each emotion as it comes up. Asking yourself what is really behind it without filtering. Then, when you discover the first layers, keep going. You can count on the fact that what you think is causing it is just the beginning down the layers of the deeper reveals that come from old wounds and deep-seated fears.

When you reveal it, you heal it.

And along the way, let go - shedding experiences, circumstances, and people in your life that are draining you and hold you back from fully becoming the best version of you.

This is the moment of freefall, of releasing the grip on the things you have clung to.

And within this, you create flexibility in your field, which becomes movable, interchangeable. Loosening the strict patterns you have been tightly holding onto to give yourself the grace of falling into place.

This is also the moment where everyone around you might think you're crazy, and life itself may seem foreign. But trust in the process, allow, allow, allow. Don’t hold back what must come apart.

So, to navigate your emotions in challenging times means to be in a state of allowing, acknowledging, willing to be open to what your subconscious is showing you, creating space for healing, and then releasing it with love.

You may be afraid of what you find in the dark, but until you give it exposure to the light, it will continue to have a hold on you.

That is the blessing waiting for you when you allow all your colors to be exposed to be filled with vivid, authentic, and true light.

What will remain is your authentic self, as you are becoming more of who you are meant to be.

When you open to the depth of your emotions and breathe light into them, you become that light, with more capacity for love, courage, joy, grace and compassion.

You are becoming, expanding, stepping into the vibrancy of a cleared aura - your own living, breathing, beautiful Mandala.

From this cleared space, you become stronger and naturally happy regardless of outside circumstances and you emit positive energy from the inside out.

And with each passing day, new opportunities and success find you as you attract magic and miracles into your life, manifesting all you desire.

As a healer, there is one thing that I can tell you for sure…

This is the promise of opening up to your emotions, as this is the path of true healing.

In Closing, a Word from Your Guides

You are not alone.

Remember that you are amazing!

It may not always feel that way, and you may question your strength and doubt your abilities.

But, through it all, know that you've got this, one step at a time.

Allow all your emotions to pour out. Let the feelings behind them be your guidepost.

And know, that regardless if it is felt in moments of despair, you are always loved and guided.

And give yourself a break!

Forgive, allow, breathe, and create sacred space within and around you.

You are a miracle, and so important in this world.

You matter more than you will ever know!

In this FB Live, I dove deeper into this subject, and gave a practical technique for healing the root causes.
